What is Ritu Shanti Pooja?

Ritu Shanti or Rajaswala Shanti is an important Hindu Vedic ritual performed when a girl attains puberty for the first time.

Based on the date, time, and nakshatra of her first menstruation, priests check for any astrological doshas and recommend the appropriate Shanti rituals.

The pooja mainly includes Punyahavachanam, Ganapathy Pooja, and Kalasha Pooja. Through Vedic mantras, holy water is sanctified and sprinkled on the girl as part of the traditional purification ritual and to invoke divine blessings.

If any doshas are identified, additional rituals such as Bhuvaneshwari Shanti Homam, Navagraha Shanti, and Nakshatra Shanti may also be performed.

When is Ritu Shanti Pooja Performed?

Ritu Shanti Pooja is generally performed on the 11th day after a girl attains puberty. However, according to certain family and regional traditions, it may be performed on the 5th day itself.

The occasion is also associated with the traditional Half Saree Function, commonly known as the Langa Voni ceremony in Telugu families.

Ritu Shanti Pooja Procedure

Main Rituals Included:

1. Ganapathy Pooja

Performed to seek Lord Ganesha’s blessings, remove obstacles, and ensure the ceremony begins auspiciously.

2. Punyahavachanam

A traditional purification ritual performed through Vedic chanting and the sanctification of holy water to create an auspicious environment.

3. Kalasha Pooja

Divine energies are invoked into the sacred Kalasha through Vedic mantras and traditional worship.

4. Mantra Chanting and Blessings

Vedic mantras are chanted, and sanctified holy water is sprinkled on the girl as part of the traditional purification ritual and to invoke divine blessings.

5. Bhuvaneshwari Shanti Homam (If Doshas Exist)

If any doshas are identified during the astrological assessment, this special homam is performed to seek Goddess Bhuvaneshwari’s blessings and pray for dosha nivarana.

6. Navagraha Shanti and Nakshatra Shanti

These rituals are performed to seek relief from planetary and nakshatra-related doshas and to invoke positive blessings.
