Naamakaranam is the Process of naming the newborn baby as per the baby’s Rasi and nakshatra or any suitable name as per the Sastras as per their parent’s choice and to receive the blessings of the Lord. The important Poojas performed are Punyahavachanam and Jathakarmam.
On the day of naamakaran new cloth for the baby is presented and then the rituals are done by speaking out the name of the baby in its ear. Once the rituals are completed the name chanted during the naamakaran is considered as the official Hindu name and can be used for Sankalpa.
When to Perform Naamakaranam Pooja?
It is performed on the 11th day from Baby’s Birth. It is auspicious when performed in the morning.

- The Naamakaranam Pooja is required to get permission from the Supreme Lord to name the child and also to ward off evil spirits while naming the child which will be used by the child during its lifetime.
