Description

The Munja Ceremony, also known as Yagnopavit Sanskar or Upanayan Vidhi, is one of the most significant Sanskars (rites of passage) in a Brahmin boy’s life. It symbolizes the spiritual rebirth of the child and marks his initiation into Vedic learning and dharmic responsibilities.

In Marathi tradition, Munja is celebrated with devotion and pride, usually when the boy is around 8 years old. During this ritual, the sacred thread (Janeu) is worn, signifying the transition to Brahmacharya Ashram.

The boy becomes a “Dwija” — meaning twice-born — once Munja is performed, eligible to study Vedas and perform rituals.
