Asthis offered in the holy waters will help the departed soul to attain freedom from the cycle of rebirth, thereby achieving peace. The meaning of Asthi is the leftover bone or some collected ashes of the people who passed away. After the last rites, the remains of the deceased person will get collected. It is mostly tied in a piece of cloth. In the end, the immersed ashes will flow in a quiet water body like a river. This overall process of immersion is called Asthi Visarjan.
Asthi Visarjan should always be performed in a prescribed manner as specified in scriptures. It is believed that if Asthi Visarjan is not done as specified in the holy books, then the soul feels hurt. Asthis are collected either on the day of cremation or the 3rd, 7th, or 9th day. It should get immersed in flowing water before the 10th day. It is better to collect Asthi on the 3rd day following cremation rites. There are many places where we do Asthi Visarjan.
