Description
Upanayana ceremony is a significant tradition among the Brahmins. Performing Upanayana makes the boy eligible for the study of the Vedas and scriptures and denotes the spiritual rebirth. The sacred thread is also worn by some Kshatriyas and Vaishya’s community people. A boy is said to be born twice when you perform Upanayana samskara and is called “Dwija”. One sacred thread contains 3 strands symbolizing the three debts, the debt to a teacher, the debt to parents and ancestors, the debt to God.
The ceremony is performed beginning with Ganesha pooja, Punyaha Vachanam, Maha Sankalpam, Kalasha pooja, Udagashanti, or the sacred bath, Yagnopaveetam or Janeu is then worn to him and homa is performed as per Shastras and Vidhana.
When to Perform Upanayana Ceremony?
When the male child attains the age of 8 years this ceremony is performed by fixing a Muhurth based on the Birth Nakshatra of the boy.
