Upakarma is termed as “the beginning or commencement” marks the refreshing of the study of Vedas and is a significant ritual for a Brahmin to change his “Poonal/white thread” once every year to purify his white thread from any kind of “Doshas”.  All must perform this ritual without fail and do Prayashchita to remove all the sins and secure the divine blessings.

Upakarma is termed as the beginning or commencement marks the refreshing of the study of Vedas and is a significant ritual for a Brahmin to change his “Yagnopavitam/white thread” once every year.

The day is of great significance to Yajur Vedi, Rig Vedi & Sama Vedi Brahmins. On the next Day, Gayatri Japa should perform. This entire Ritual is called Aavani Avittam.

This auspicious day represents the day when Lord Narayana took avatar as Lord Hayagriva. Lord Hayagriva restored the Vedas to Brahama from Asuras and also is the God of Knowledge.
