Description
Asthi Visarjan is one of the most sacred post-death rituals in Hindu Dharma. Performing this ritual in Kashi (Varanasi), on the banks of the holy Ganga, helps the departed soul attain Moksha and freedom from the cycle of rebirth (Punarjanma). Our experienced pandits perform the complete Asthi Visarjan ceremony as per the Vedic scriptures either in your presence or on your behalf.
What is Asthi Visarjan?
The word Asthi means the remaining bone fragments or ashes collected after cremation. Visarjan means immersion. Asthi Visarjan refers to the ritual immersion of a deceased person’s ashes in a flowing holy river β preferably the Ganga in Kashi. It is believed that the soul achieves liberation when the Asthis are immersed in such sacred waters.
π When Should Asthi Visarjan be Performed?
According to Hindu traditions, the Asthi should be collected:
- On the day of cremation (if possible)
- Visarjan should be done on the 3rd, 7th, or 9th day after death
Ideally, the immersion should be done before the 10th day. If immersion is delayed, it should only be done after performing a Tirtha Shraddha.
