Ram Navami or the birthday of Lord Rama falls on the 9th day of the bright fortnight of the month of Chaitra. One who approaches Sri Rama with love and worshipfulness becomes largehearted, pure in spirit, good-natured and dispassionate in thought, word and deed. A true devotee of Lord Rama is his representative, with his power and his knowledge. It is considered auspicious to undertake a fast on the day of Ram Navami, in the name of Rama. The objective of the fast is not to ask for special favors of the deity, but to seek perfection as a human being.
It is a very auspicious day to perform poojas or homas dedicated to lord Rama or Vishnu on this particular day.
