This year we celebrate Guru Purnima on 16th July 2019. Guru Purnima commemorates the goodness of spiritual gurus and teachers. Guru Purnima or Vyasa Purnima is an Indian festival dedicated to spiritual and academic teachers. The festival is celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) in the Hindu month of Ashadha (June–July) of the Shaka Samvat, which is the known as Hindu calendar in India. The celebration is marked by ritualistic respect to the Guru, Guru Puja. Guru is one who dispels the darkness of ignorance.
Guru Purnima in itself is a paradoxical term, with ‘Gu’ meaning darkness and ‘ru’ standing for the removal of darkness. Thus, a guru is believed to be someone who removes all darkness from our lives. From spiritual gurus to secular ones, people pay respect to teachers all over the country.
Even the parent is a Guru as they are the best Teacher / Guru to a child. Guru is the one who acts as the link between God and the human soul. And having a Guru in your life is a must. Guru is the one who teaches about life, spirituality, gives knowledge, and finally, guides a person to reach God. On this day, one should pray Parents, Teachers and seek their blessings.
